The Devil Is In The Detours

The Second City's 112th Mainstage Revue, "The Devil Is In The Detours," is an engaging and entertaining play that skillfully navigates through intricacies with clever, witty, and long-form improvisational performances, unraveling the concealed subtleties in a captivating two-hour show. The "About The Show" page asks, "Have you ever wanted to escape?" where the six-person ensemble of Andy Bolduc, Adonis Holmes, Hannah Ingle, Laurel Krabacher, Jordan Stafford, and Adisa "DI" Williams sings and dances with hilarious and unhinged materials. Enjoy edgy, unapologetic comedy that fearlessly tackles social issues through imaginative scripts, using unconventional characters, such as Ask the StoryBots, off-brand Sesame Street puppets, who deliver satirical commentary on capitalism. Delight yourself with improvisational performances with unexpected twists, like a scenario in which a high fashion, a luxury real estate agent is unknowingly caught in an endless (Let's Sale Houses) loop that's unsettling to her two agents. Most of the cast members have a rich comedic background, and they always deliver clever, timely humor. Hannah Ingle, for instance, has been making waves in the Chicago entertainment scene with her impressive musical comedy performance in Ruth & Elaine. Her unique talent adds a special flavor to the show. I've always been a big fan of Krabacher's incredible talent - her brilliance really shines when performing the quick-witted, naughty old man, which cracks me up. Watching Holmes and Stafford on stage is a true testament to their comedic skills and chemistry - and their capricious humorous Zombie and elder women working at the library scripts was a hoot. Adisa Williams' performance blew me away - her walk down financial unique rap flow and quick wit rhymes mesmerized the entire audience. But Andy Bolduc's horse whisper and butler (YESSS) performance almost had me on the floor. I nearly got the horrifying fright of my life when they pointed at a person in the audience to join them on the stage. Thankfully, it was a man named David sitting in front of me that they wanted, and he triumphantly became a runway fashion model.

The Second City's improvisational comedy thrives on its ability to seamlessly engage the audience by incorporating keywords and catchphrases, bringing an element of adaptability and fluency to the performance and adding to the enjoyment of the overall experience. So indulge in an array of outstanding Second City Productions, offering good eats and a wide selection of libations, and enjoy the talented cast of The Devil Is In The Detours.
