Don’t Quit Your DayDream

With so much political discord and the validity of who is the best to run the country, we need a little humor in our lives. Okay, a lot! Well, you can find that humor in Chicago at The Second City, 111th Revue, 'Don't Quit Your Daydream!'  The 2-hour sketch comedy show features six talented comedians asking you to leave your 9 to 5 grind behind. The solid chemistry between Julia Morales, Jordan Stafford, Evan Mills, Claire McFadden, Andy Bolduc, and Kiley Fitzgerald will have you hysterically laughing in stitches with their out-the-wall character scenes and songs created on the spot.

The show follows the standard comedy of having a guest call out a person, place, or things, and the cast improv a scene, which is still humorous. The night we were there, Andy Bolduc played a fish that found religion, telling others they would go to hell, which was hilarious. The biggest laugh for me was the timely shot against Clarence Thomas, post-menopausal Barbie, and the skit where Bolduc, McFadden, Mills, and Jordan Stafford about Bolduc's imaginary girlfriend had the audience in tears. The look in Mills's eyes was priceless. But one of my favorite performances had to be Black Heaven, where a new guy tries to get into black heaven because white heaven is too boring. He eventually gets in but breaks one of the cardinal rules within black hair society. Another funny scene is when Stafford is graduating, but his sister, played by Morales, misses the event. The humor comes while they discuss their sibling's age differences in her car, Morales begins to sing the wrong words to songs, and Stafford has to correct her continuously.

Other comedic skits are witty, touching, and some so ridiculous that you can't help but laugh. But you come there to do this, and The Second City has a plethora of comedic events that will remove the workday blues from your soul. So get ready to laugh your troubles away, and remember, don't quit daydreaming.
